Clean Water for Communities and Future Healthcare Professionals
Through this integrated water supply project, Madamfo Ghana is improving access to safe drinking water in the communities of Akumafie and Sebreni, as well as at the Ankoana Hostel of the Seikwa Nursing & Midwifery College in Ghana’s Bono Region. More than 6,900 people will benefit from a reliable and sustainable water supply.
By supporting both rural communities and an educational institution for future nurses and midwives, the project demonstrates how access to clean water strengthens health, education and quality of life.

Project Overview
The project serves the communities of Akumafie and Sebreni, together with the Ankoana Hostel of the Seikwa Nursing & Midwifery College.
Before the project, access to clean water was inadequate at all three locations. Existing boreholes were either overloaded or frequently out of service, while the student hostel had no direct water connection at all. Collecting water often required long walks and negatively affected hygiene, health, education and daily life.
The Challenge
Before the project, local communities and students faced several major challenges:
- Overloaded or unreliable boreholes
- Long waiting times to collect water
- Dependence on unsafe water sources during breakdowns
- No direct water supply at the student hostel
- Poor hygiene and limited infection prevention
- Loss of valuable time for school, studies and work
- A particular burden on women, children and female students
Project Implementation
To provide a sustainable solution, modern water supply systems were installed at all three locations.
The project included:
- Drilling new boreholes
- Installing mechanised pumping systems
- Constructing elevated water storage tanks
- Creating multiple public water collection points
- Providing a direct water connection to the student hostel
- Training local technicians and community representatives in operation and maintenance
Community members and the management of the Nursing & Midwifery College were actively involved throughout the planning, implementation and long-term maintenance of the project.

Sustainable Impact
The project has already delivered significant results. Successful boreholes were drilled at all three locations, and the mechanised water systems were completed in June 2026. Water quality tests confirmed that the supplied water is safe for drinking.
Today, more than 6,900 people benefit from a reliable supply of clean water. Long walks and waiting times have been eliminated, while improved hygiene and better living conditions contribute to healthier communities and better learning environments for students.
Thanks to comprehensive training and strong community involvement, the systems can be maintained locally, ensuring their long-term sustainability.

Long-Term Development
The Integrated Water Supply Project demonstrates how sustainable infrastructure can improve multiple aspects of daily life. Reliable access to clean water not only protects health but also supports education, improves study conditions for future healthcare professionals and reduces the daily burden on families.
By investing in clean water today, the project creates lasting opportunities for healthier communities and a more sustainable future.
