School feeding at Lake Bosomtwe
School Needs More Than a Classroom
In Ghana, chronic malnutrition remains a serious challenge, especially for children. A lack of proper nutrition weakens the immune system, affects development, and makes learning much more difficult.
This is exactly where our school feeding program comes in. In 2008/2009, we launched a school meal initiative for the kindergarten and primary school in Apewu. The positive changes were so evident that, in 2010, with the support of German Broker, we expanded the program to the villages of Banso, Detiaso, and Esaase.
Impact
Today, more than 700 children benefit from regular, nutritious meals. School attendance has increased, concentration in class has improved, and overall academic performance is noticeably better. A total of 30 teachers are currently working in the project area.
The impact of the program goes beyond the classroom. In each village, two women are employed to prepare fresh meals for the children every day. This creates local jobs, strengthens women’s independence, and provides a stable source of income. All food supplies are sourced from local markets, supporting the regional economy and local market women.
With a monthly donation of just €9, you can support one child in the school feeding program. Your contribution provides a healthy meal for only 45 cents per day, helping to improve education, health, and long-term opportunities.
