Education Complex in Akyem Apedwa
In Akyem Apedwa, a rural community in Ghana’s Eastern Region, hundreds of children from low-income families attend the Geodak Kiddie Kingdom School. Classes currently take place under extremely difficult conditions – in unstable wooden structures with no protection from rain or sun, no toilets, and no access to clean drinking water.
Together with the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP, we aim to fundamentally change this situation.
As part of a comprehensive education project, a new and holistic school complex is being developed, consisting of:
- a fully equipped kindergarten
- a fully equipped primary school
- a junior high school with a computer lab
- a mechanized water supply system and hygienic toilet facilities
Why this project matters
The aim of the project is to provide all children in Apedwa with access to education in a safe and supportive environment. By building modern sanitation facilities and supplying clean water, hygiene standards will be significantly improved – a vital step in preventing disease.
Particular focus is placed on supporting girls: with proper sanitary infrastructure, they can continue to attend school regularly, even during menstruation.
Overall, this project makes a significant contribution to improving the future prospects of children and their families – and thus plays an important role in the sustainable social development of the entire region.
