School feeding at Lake Bosomtwe

Chronic malnutrition is a huge problem in Ghana and it is responsible for many diseases. The children are weakened. To them, diseases – from which a healthy child could recover easily – are fatal. Madamfo Ghana has launched feeding programmes for nursery- and primary schools. Women from the respective villages are hired to cook for the children.
The food which is used comes from local markets, thus supporting local market women.

Project overview

There are about 600 pupils in the project area. In 2008/2009, Madamfo Ghana has launched a school feeding programme in a school in Apewu. Thanks to the support of „German Broker“ the programme could be expanded and also implemented in Banso, Detiaso and Esaase. The programme generated a strong increase in the number of pupils and better school performances. 30 teachers are working in the project area at Lake Bosumtwi.
