West Mamprusi Water Project – First 5 Wells

Project background

The West Mamprusi District is located in the North East Region of Ghana. The people in this area live in extreme poverty.

Our goal was to help 19 communities, with almost 57,000 people, who didn’t  have access to sufficient clean drinking water.

There were a few simple wells, some of them dug, but they were broken or, due to the low water table and the extended droughts in the region, no longer carrying water.

As so often,  people fetched their water from streams, ponds or rivers, which can lead to life-threatening diseases.

The search for water also took a lot of time. As a result, schoolchildren came to school late or not at all, and women had little time for family or  farming.

Project descritption

Thanks to the generous donation of our partner Salvus Mineralbrunnen GmbH, we could realize the first 5 wells (4 mechanized and 1 hand pump well) in the villages Bulbia, Kukuazugug, Loagri, Nabari and Suluhuya and thus provide access to clean drinking water for about 25,000 people!

Project objectives:

  • Access to clean drinking water for 5 communities, with a total of almost 25,000 inhabitants
  • Improvement of the health status of the population, through better hygiene and prevention of water-borne diseases.
  • Improving the standard of education. Pupils no longer have to spend a long time looking for water in the morning and can attend classes on time. In addition, absenteeism due to water-related diseases is reduced.
