Child trafficking

On Lake Volta, Eastern Region of Ghana, from the early age of childhood, children are exploited as cheap labour within Lake Volta’s fishing industry.

Under inhuman conditions they are enslaved to work as fishers and have no chance to get access to education.
The physical and psychological hardship the children have to suffer is shocking. Disobedience is punished with physical violence.

Poverty and a lack of means to take care of all their children is what drives families into selling their children.
It is a complex problem that necessitates a collaborative effort to address not only the parents but also those who exploit the situation
– the fishermen seeking cheap labor.

Our initiative is a dedicated response to combat child trafficking and create awareness about the urgent need for intervention in this region.
