Attakrom Nursery School and Primary School, Toilet Schoolfeeding
Project Goal
- School education: access to primary education
- Health prevention: Usage of the facility to educate mothers/families in the context of awareness campaigns (Malaria prevention, infant- and child mortality, maternal mortality, etc.) in cooperation with the BONITA Health Care Center in Brodi.
- Prevention of adolescent pregnancies and pregnancies of girls under the age of 14 years (see newspaper article)
Destination
The village of Attakrom is located in Tain District in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana. Probably 1,300 people live in the village and its surroundings. The inhabitants are mostly farmers.
Target Group:
500 girls and boys at the age of 1–12 years
Project Framework:
Schoolfacility with a nursery school and a primary school, as well as a kitchen for the school feeding program.
Situation before:
At the moment, classes take place outdoors or in a provisional shak. That causes many problems. During class, the children are distracted and if it rains, they cannot attend class at all which in turn leads to poor performances in exams.
Another negative effect of the lack of education and the circumstances that come with it is that especially young girls are being “seduced“ to engage in other activities. There is a dramatic increase of adolescent pregnancies and pregnancies of girls under the age of 14 years.
This project will specifically target this problem and find a solution.
Status: completed (thanks to the support of Mr Evans and his friends)
Costs: 90,000 EURO
