Access to healthcare is a central focus of our work. In Ghana, the healthcare system often operates under the principle known as “Cash and Go”: payment comes first, treatment follows. Those who cannot afford to pay receive no medical care or only inadequate treatment. What is hard to imagine for many is everyday reality here.

Our team has repeatedly witnessed situations in which even severely injured people in acute, life-threatening conditions were not treated. As a qualified pediatric nurse, Bettina Landgrafe could not accept this situation and decided to take action.

For more than 25 years, Madamfo Ghana has been committed to providing as many people as possible with access to qualified medical care. Even small, regular donations help make treatments and surgeries reliably and sustainably possible.

In addition, we improve local healthcare infrastructure through the construction of maternity wards, health centers, and hospitals. We also offer childbirth training for women and educational programs for expectant fathers on the development of the unborn child. This work is carried out by local nurses and midwives who speak the language and understand the cultural context of the communities they serve.

Clinic for Yaw Owusukrom

For most of the inhabitants, the approx. 5-6 km distance to the nearest clinic is hardly manageable, as they do not have private or public transport. Especially in case of illness, this is a very big problem.

Clinic for Praprababida

The nearest medical facility is about 15 km away. This is an unmanageable distance for pregnant women and small children, which is why they only go to the clinic when they are already seriously ill.
